Another enjoyable evening last Tuesday at the club.
First we had an excellent early session from Al Haden all about critiquing and mentoring. As well as describing the support that the club has for offering critique and mentoring to anyone that would like it, he gave some excellent examples of how to critique a photograph, including some tips for how to critique your own work. I suspect if I had taken up his offer of critiquing competition entries before submission then some of mine might have not been panned quite so much by the judge!
Speaking of the judge, the first competition of the year featured Paddy Ruske, who gave a very detailed and (at least to my eyes) accurate critique of every one of the 93 entries. He was certainly spot-on in his descriptions of all the flaws in my entries, so I hope everyone else found his feedback on their images as useful as I did. We gave him a very hard time in the selection of the award winners, with a lot of very high quality photos on display!
Pixaroo is now open for the next competition of the season, featuring nature and mono prints. Please check the website for the rules, especially if you are a new member, as the rules for nature competitions can vary from club to club! Details are at https://www.bromsgroveps.com/competition-results/bps-competition-rules-october-2021/ . Even though it’s a print competition, you need to submit a PDI copy of your image in Pixaroo for presentation on the night (the judge will look at the print, but the projected image helps everyone in the room be able to see what they are talking about!) Entries close on October 8th, so you have just over a week.
Next week we have our first model night of the season, featuring our old friend Elise. Colin has prepared some instructions about how to make the most of the evening, and I will circulate them in a separate email. There will be no early session, but it would be great if a few people can arrive early to help with the setup, as usual.
We are hoping to hold another raffle soon – probably the October 8th meeting – provided we can come up with a suitable prize! If anyone has any ideas, or perhaps an unwanted gift that might be suitable, please talk to Linda.
Car parking at the club continues to be a challenge – so please try to be as considerate as possible when parking, both in terms of maximizing the number of spaces available and leaving room for people to pass if parking on the drive. Car pooling where possible will also help!
That’s it for this week
