Last week’s print competition gave our judge a really difficult task, having to try to select the winners from such a range of very different – but all excellent in their own way – images. Perhaps he seemed like he was nit-picking occasionally, but I suspect when you have so many great images the only way to whittle them down to be able to pick the winners is to find some reason – however picky – to rule some images out of contention. Being a judge can be a thankless task.
Definitely among the winners last week was our competition secretary Nick Veale – not just because of his success in the Mono competition, but because the work he has put in on getting the projector better calibrated seems to have paid off. I hope you all agree that the images displayed on screen were all looking great! Thanks Nick for your perseverance on this.
This coming Tuesday there will be an early session from me on some photography basics – exposure and exposure modes – that will naturally lead in to the session a couple of weeks later on how to set up manual mode on your particular camera. I’ll try to cover some of the “why” to lay the groundwork for the next session covering the “how”. While it’s aimed primarily at beginners there may be some stuff of interest to more experienced photographers too.
The main session on Tuesday is an event called the “Mobile Phone Knockout Challenge”, where pairs of images will go head to head for elimination by audience vote. If previous years are anything to go by it should be great fun. Thanks to David J for organizing this.
As if that wasn’t enough, there’s also a raffle, so bring your cash along for a chance to win fantastic prizes. Thanks, Linda!
Remember that the Pixoroo site is now accepting entries for the third PDI competition of the season – you have until December 10th to get your entries in, with mono and nature sections. Please limit your entry to 3 images total per person, and take note of the reminder from Nick regarding rules for Nature entries – no domesticated animals (e.g. dogs, cats, farm animals), or garden plants/flowers allowed.
If you are wanting to come along to the New Year’s party on Jan 7th, remember you have until December 17 to get your money and menu selection in.
That’s it for this week – look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday.
Richard
