It was great to see so many of you at the New Year party last Tuesday – I had a good time and judging by the feedback that has been posted, so did everyone else! One of the strengths of BPS is that it’s more than just a photography club…
This coming Tuesday we have a talk from our very own Jenny Webster. In her own words:
“My Talk is based on TRAVEL…I have chosen 4 routes and will hope firstly to give some basic travel advice when travelling long haul short haul and internals (these are the worst)… with regards to how to pack and what to pack, and where to pack certain items to save confiscation. Also how to ensure you can get your images safely back to the UK.
Then I will hope to go to the 4 various travel points, and show members the beauty of those countries, explaining all the time how I managed to get some of the images. The images will be mostly nature, but also landscape and a few people from those countries…
The whole time through the talk, I will stop and take valid questions, because my reason for the talk is to give strong valid travel advice, including the do’s and don’ts, countries that are particularly difficult…and how to get the images that you want from that holiday.
On the evening we will fly to the Arctic, then down to Kenya, onto Rwanda/Congo, and finish the grand tour with India.
So bring along your passports and let’s all take an eye opening trip. “
Should be a great evening. As if that was not enough, there is also an early session from David J on the topic of using levels and curves to give your images more pop. This is something that recent judges have mentioned a few times, especially on mono images, so here is your chance to find out what they meant!
Looking ahead, the following week is the Bromsgrove Battle, where we will be hosting visitors from 3 other clubs – so please plan ahead and think about car-sharing if possible. We will try to get access to the prep-school car park for the evening but our previous inquiries seem to have been ignored…
Looking still further ahead, we need someone to step into the role of Competitions Secretary as Nick will not be able to continue in the role next year. Anyone that is interested, or at least willing to consider being involved, please talk to Nick or any committee member to find out what is involved. There are various aspects to the role and they don’t all have to be done by the same person, so if (for example) you would be happy booking judges but don’t think you could handle the technical side of running the competitions (or vice versa), there’s no reason to rule yourself out.
The tea rota is filling up but there are still some empty slots, so if you have not yet signed up please do so.
Finally some more sad news to report, concerning a former member. Many of you may remember Joe Kollar, who was a member a few years ago – sadly we have heard that he died just before Christmas. Our thoughts are with his family.
