Another busy week at BPS. On Tuesday, we started with an early session, presented by me, talking about lenses and their characteristics. Hopefully some of you found it useful. There are some notes I made when preparing for the talk at https://www.richardkchapman.co.uk/characteristics-of-lenses/ which go into a bit more detail.
The main session was the selection process for the upcoming Boys vs Girls PDI competition on Feb 18th. I was staying neutral, and so able to observe from afar the different approaches taken by the two teams – fascinating! There looked to be some great images on display at both ends of the hall, so the competition on the 18th should be one to look forward to.
Speaking of competitions, there was a very close-fought competition on Wednesday night as Kings Norton Photographic Society hosted the annual 6 Societies inter-club competition. There were 5 societies competing (obviously), from Stirchley, Kings Norton, South Birmingham, Droitwich and of course Bromsgrove, and some really good images on display from all of them. The judge had a really hard time deciding between them – if it had been me I would just have given (almost) all of them 20 – and when the scores were counted up it was extremely close, with a tie for first place between Bromsgrove and Stirchley. Unfortunately I can’t share a photo of us receiving the trophy as current holders Droitwich said they never received it – which led to everyone racking their brains trying to remember who had won in 2023. Turns out it was Bromsgrove, so we already have the trophy somewhere! Once we find it, we’ll have to hang on to it for 6 months then hand it over to Stirchley.
A fun evening, with great cakes – and Team Bromsgrove did pretty well in the raffle too! Good to see so many members turn out to support the club.
On Tuesday 11th we have a presentation from X entitled “My Camera Club Journey” by Darron Matthews. Sounds intriguing, and I will be sorry to miss it. No early session.
